Weldbond® was founded in 1964 has been producing its internationally known universal adhesive over 40 years!
In the early 1960’s Bernie Ross Sr., the son of the founder (Frank T. Ross, pictured below), spent a lot of time traveling across the Canadian countryside meeting with clients and attending tradeshows. During one particular train ride Bernie Ross Sr. happened to meet a passenger who shared with him the formula for an adhesive that could bond almost anything. At the end of the ride Bernie Sr. encouraged the man to contact him if he ever wanted to sell the adhesive. A few months later Bernie Sr. was contacted by the train passenger and a deal was struck, thus Weldbond® was born.

Initial market research of hardware stores showed that a multi-functional adhesive product was not available but would be welcomed on retail shelves. The first Weldbond® product was sold in a peanut butter style container with 3 or 4 sizes and was focused more for the trades.
In the 1970’s Weldbond® experienced a huge spike in sales as it was endorsed to be used as a concrete additive to increase compression strength in the development of the Park Royal Towers in West Vancouver. Although Weldbond® first started in the trades, consumer friendly packaging was soon introduced and Weldbond® quickly gained ground in the consumer market due to it’s multi-functionality.
Weldbond® universal adhesive has many properties that make it perfect for all sorts of projects and applications including bonding, sealing, priming and gluing. It dries clear, is weatherproof, emits no fumes, is acid free and has a flexible bond. Weldbond® has also become the first and only adhesive in North America to be EcoLogoTM certified as environmentally safe.

FUN FACT: In the late 1980’s Weldbond® was contacted by a company that created special suits such as those used in space, in deep sea diving, in the army as well as fireman suitst. The company let us know that Weldbond® was indeed being used as a thread sealer on suits that were potentially entering outer space. Now we can’t confirm or deny anything, however Weldbond® might very well be out of this world!
